Stop Wasting your Rosemary Cuttings!
July 24, 2023
This is a rosemary stem of about 8 inches from the tip of my fingers. You can plant the cutting as it is. But to me, that seems like a total waste of opportunity. From such a cutting, you should be able to produce about 3 decent-sized cuttings as shown below.
About 2-3 inches of a cutting should be enough.
In a rosemary plant, nodes are plentiful. Every place where you see a leaf emerge, that's a node. A three inch cutting should have about three nodes. Remove the bottom node (as shown below) from the cutting as this is where roots will emerge once you dip the cutting in water or soil.
From about 15 rosemary stems, I was able to fill out a 50 cell tray of rosemary cuttings. Once roots have emerged, which should be about a month later, I will transplant them in bigger pot containers.
